Autumn is the time of year when the earth’s axis begins to tilt
away from the sun, days becoming shorter and nights longer. The
Autumnal Equinox (around September 21) is that crossing point when the
day and night are of equal length. The word Equinox originates from the
Latin word aequinoctium. Aequinoctium is constructed of the roots aequo
(“even”) and nox (“night”), literally meaning “equal night.
